Female Festival of Sport

The Female Festival of Sport saw almost 90 women from across Defence, the Civil Service and notably industry competing in a female sporting event with the overarching aim to Inspire, Develop and Succeed in sport, and moreover, try something new. Competing in teams, the ladies played netball, football, rugby, squash, badminton, completed a timed 5 k rowing race, a swimming gala and a triathlon, against each other and the clock.

The Friday night saw a live performance by Sharon Martin who penned and performed the Scottish Women in Sport anthem and Iona Fyfe, a Scottish Folk singer and an interview with Steph Inglis following her success in the Glasgow Games at Judo, and overcoming her injury in Vietnam.

The last day saw a military competition named Wolfs Challenge, which was a stretcher race, followed by a LR pull on the square at Redford Bks, here in Edinburgh. Sponsorship from both the Team Army Sports Foundation and Vodafone ensured the competitors enjoyed a demanding but fun challenge and seized the opportunity to enjoy healthy competition in an environment that promoted all that we had set out to achieve.

The eventual worthy winners were Edinburgh UOTC, who delivered a master-class in teamwork from the off.
