The Army Football Association (Army FA) has conceived a new competition to identify the overall Army Units League Champions.

The 2016/17 divisional champions of the Southern, Northern, Midlands and Scottish Leagues have all been involved on the route to the Final. The inaugural final was held at the Aldershot Military Stadium on Wednesday 6th September. Contesting this first Army Units Champions League Cup Final were the Ripon based 21 Engineer Regiment (21RE), and the Stafford based 1 Signal Regiment (1SR).

After ninety minutes of end to end and entertaining football, it was 1 Signal Regiment who ran out worthy winners 3-2. Despite falling behind in the first half, they fought back to lead 2-1 at half time. A third goal for the Signallers’ cemented their lead in the second half. However the Engineers pulled a goal back to ensure a frantic final few minutes in search of an equaliser that never came.

Therefore it is the name of 1 Signal Regiment that goes on the trophy as the initial winners of this new competition.
