With an autumnal chill in the air and the leaves turning, it was a perfect setting for the third Team Army Golf Day, held last Thursday at the Frilford Heath Golf Club.

12 companies, The Royal British Legion and a team from Battle Back entered the challenge, along with a distinguished guest list headed up by CDS, Gen Sir Nick Houghton. Teams were mixed into groups of 4 that proved to be a popular decision and provided the ideal opportunity to meet new colleagues from both industry and the MoD. After the ubiquitous golf club bacon butties and coffee, 48 intrepid golfers took to the course with a shot-gun start, all focused and set on thoughts of 2015 glory! The weather held, the golf was good and it was all rounded off with reception drinks and dinner after which the assembled throng were treated to CDS giving an address on some thoughts and views from the top. A cracking day, well supported and very much helped by the support of the Army Golf Association.

We were delighted to welcome Boeing as this year’s headline sponsor but it was also very gratifying to see such a strong core of support for the event and make such a good day of it. With each team named after a car model, it was congratulations to the appropriately named team ‘GOLF’ led by Ian Stopps, Chairman of Raytheon UK and included Gaz Meekins from Battle Back who took top honours this year. As for the rest, there is now a little under a year to go in order to hone those skills and come back fighting for the 2016 event, now likely to be on 13th October!
